Horrific

Forget Cthulhu. This is actual horror that really happens...

Well, I've found it shockingly difficult to contemplate over 120,000 dead people. It's a number that we're used to hearing in association with money, coke cans, and bottle tops. Not bodies.

Then I saw these satellite images and started to find the reality of just what that much water travelling that fast can do. Doesn't look much? The after picture has a 'brown beach' where the before one didn't. Well, each pixel is 250m x 250m - so some of that 'beach' (actually silt and rubble) is over 3km wide now - where towns used to be.

Then I found these satellite image that were shown on TV. How to make a town (and the people in it) disappear.

Finally, I found this image. Warning: this picture is likely to upset you - it should. When you scroll down and realise what makes up a lot of that 'rubble' you'll see what I mean.

Now I can really understand 120,000.
